BATTLE OF ANTIETAM (September 16-18 1862 DRAW)
This was the first major battle in the Civil War that took place on Northern soil. This battle occurred Sharpsburg, Maryland and resulted in 23,100 casualties. While the result was inconclusive, it did give a strategic advantage to the union.
